Thanks to a generous grant provided by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation in 2015, Niagara College was able to install bird, bat and duck boxes as well as salamander boards at the NOTL campus around the Wetland Ridge Trail! Habitat structures to support reptile, amphibian, birds and mammal species living on campus can be found in Welland and in Niagara-on-the-Lake. All habitat structures will provide shelter and protection to many species who call Niagara College home and can help to inform the species inventory through ongoing monitoring efforts.
On Earth Day, April 22nd 2016, TD Canada Trust representatives visited Niagara College to announce a $150,000 donation to Niagara’s Achieving Dreams campaign to benefit environmental studies and horticultural programs. The celebration of the announcement, Earth Day and student’s wrapping up the semester led the TD representatives and Niagara College staff and students through the Greenhouse and out to the wetlands to install habitat boxes through the TD FEF grant provided in 2015.To read more about the green investment, please read this Niagara This Week article.
